Smokin in the Oaks BBQ Championship

Penn Valley, Ca

June 4 - 5th, 2010

A national KCBS sanctioned event

Smokin in the Oaks was a very trying event - we had 2 separate tire blowouts on the way to the event and that all put us 4 hours late of our planned arrival time.

We got through it anyway, and wound up 9th overall out of 32 teams - not bad, we're starting to work out some kinks with new-for-2010 procedures, and starting to fire on all four cylinders.

We did much better than in Morgan Hill the month prior, and at this event, our only foul up was chicken - something which is usually our strongest subject. I had changed suppliers of an ingredient used in our chicken and it was much stronger than our old, flavorless one - hence the change.

Unfortunately, we did not compensate and our chicken came out overpowered - came in almost DAL.

The big accomplishment for this event was Brisket, We won 3rd place - that is huge for Too Ashamed to Name. Our Brisket is so bad, it's worth the team name alone. Hopefully this marks a trend

Results out of 32 teams

  • Chicken -27th place
  • Ribs - 10th place
  • Pork  - 7th place
  • Brisket - 3th place
  • Overall - 9th place
  • Total contestants - 32

We got closer on this one. Only our chicken tanked this time. We don't worry about that too much because our chicken usually does well, and we know what went wrong. We'll see if we can fire on all 4 cylinders at Way Out West BBQ next month.
