Red Hot & Real

BBQ Championship

Clovis, Ca

September 18 - 20th, 2009

A national KCBS sanctioned event

Clovis brings on the best competition teams in the state of California, Arizona and Nevada. Taking a walk at this competition is no small accomplishment. That's why we're not disappointed with 6th place in pork - not against this crowd of competitors.

We had high expectations of our rib turn-in which was really outstanding. Unfortunately, the judges did not agree, and since we obviously cannot sample each bone we turn in, I guess our bones weren't as good as we thought.

Chicken was dry, but we know why, and wont let that happen again, and the brisket was mediocre which ain't bad for us. Still we finished above the fold and our brisket and pork scores continue to improve.

Results out of 33 teams

  • Chicken -19th place
  • Ribs - 29th place
  • Pork  - 6th place
  • Brisket - 18th place
  • Overall - 15th place
  • Total contestants - 33

All in all, not bad. The numbers don't tell the whole story. If we keep this up next year, we'll start taking even more walks. And considering where we placed last year against this level of competition. We're getting better with each outing, and executing more and more smoothly each time too.
